Sow forage sorghum seed into heavy soil types when soil temperatures are 16°C and rising. Confirm soil temperatures by placing a thermometer into cultivated soil at sowing depth (4-6cm). To optimise seed establishment and ensure an accurate soil temperature reading, repeat this process for 2 to 3 consecutive days to ensure soil temperatures continue to rise or stay the same.
At sowing apply 150kg/ha DAP type fertiliser (Phosphorus and Nitrogen). Dependent on soil fertility status, to increase yields consider applying DAP + Potassium fertiliser.
