Specialist finishing crop with excellent animal performance

Rocket Fuel is a proprietary seed blend consisting of chicory, red and white clover. It produces a leafy, high quality feed over spring, summer and autumn when traditional pastures can decrease in quality. This versatile blend can be sown as a specialist finishing crop or a high protein milking option. Use as a 6 month or 2 year crop depending on farm system and grazing management. Suitable for a wide range of environments, Rocket Fuel offers an excellent animal performance package. White and red clover will provide Nitrogen to the chicory over time and are both an ideal companion species for leafy upright herbs, filling gaps and shading out weeds.

Grazing Management

Grazing should be delayed until plants are well anchored and resistant to pulling (approximately 5–7 weeks after sowing). Initial grazings should be light to avoid overgrazing young regrowth (for the first 1 to 2 grazings).

Chicory can become dormant over winter, and grazing of companion species during this period should be managed carefully to avoid damage to the plant crown, particularly in wet conditions. For optimal dry matter production and rapid regrowth, graze from 25 cm down to 6 cm.

Rainfall

Minimum 600mm rainfall per annum unless irrigated
