Phalaris
Phalaris is a perennial suited to dryland pastoral systems. Its extensive, deep, fibrous root system supports strong persistence once established, particularly in challenging conditions. Best sown into fertile, heavy textured, deep soils, phalaris demonstrates good tolerance to waterlogging, flooding, and saline conditions compared to many other pasture species. It is well suited to environments where ryegrass persistence is limited. With appropriate management and in the right environment, phalaris can provide a persistent, drought-tolerant pasture for long-term livestock production.
