The reliable fast starter with high performance across multiple regions

Rigorously tested and thoroughly developed through various Australian DLF Seeds trial sites/breeding programmes, Revel excels both on farm and in independent trials, ranking as the top performer in Dairy Australia’s Forage Value Index for winter production, across all five states#

As a fast starting tetraploid with late season spring growth, Revel provides farmers with palatable winter feed and early vigour for more feed, more milk, more meat and, a higher return on their seed investment compared to older annual ryegrass seed varieties.

Providing reliable feed in Australian conditions, Revel delivers top tier performance, industry leading winter dry matter production, palatability and reliability across all regions and varying climates.

#For winter production, Revel ranked number 1 across all 5 Australian states in the 2025, Dairy Australia’s Forage Value Index.

Pasture seed sowing rate (sole): 25-40kg/ha
Pasture seed sowing rate (mixed): 15-25kg/ha

Trial analysis Figure 1 and 2: Why choose Revel as your next sow

Revel cements its place as a clear industry leader for maximised dry matter production in multisite, combined seasonal analysis!

Throughout these trials (depicted in Figure 1 and Figure 2), Revel outperforms industry leading and traditional annual ryegrass varieties in total yield, early vigour, winter production and late spring performance.

DLF Seeds Revel tetraploid annual ryegrass
  • Sow Revel for top performance and highest total yield: Revel produced an average of 15,800kg DM/ha across 3 years and 8 trials.
  • Sow Revel for stronger early growth and winter production: Demonstrating increased establishment yield and winter performance over Ascend; Revels’ fast establishment and early vigour provide feed and a competitive advantage in winter production when feed availability is scarce.
  • Sow Revel for superior growth through spring: As one of the top three spring performers, Revel produced 11,090kg DM/ha in spring dry matter production. Comparatively, this is …
    • 472 kg DM/ha above Hogan (10,618 kg DM/ha).
    • 430kg DMha above Ascend (10,660 kg DM/ha).
    • 784kg DMha above Amass (10,306kg DM/ha).
  • Sow Revel for consistent pasture performance across all seasons: Revel maintains steady and high growth rates throughout multiple seasons, proving reliable production from early winter to late spring.

From a combined analysis of 8 trials over 3 years, Revel consistently outperforms Ascend by demonstrating increased establishment yield and improved yield across winter and late spring.

  • Improved early vigour: Revel produced an average of 15,800 kg DM/ha across 3 years of and 8 trials.
  • High winter growth: Winter production is Revels strongest trait, consistently outperforming Ascend across 3 years and 8 trials.
    • Revel ROI dry matter value (winter): 523kgDM/ha increase compared to Ascend.
    • Revel ROI $ value: $219/ha increased return on investment comparative to Ascend for winter production alone*.
  • Spring production: Revel excels under heavy silage cuts, matching Ascend in early spring. Come late spring, Revel produces more, demonstrating its superiority when feed is needed most.

Trial summary: Figure 3

In autumn 2022, Victoria experienced an earlier than average seasonal break, which provided an opportunity to compare early vs late annual ryegrass sowings.
With a seeding rate of 30 kg/ha (using a cone seeder) and an application of 100kg DAP starter fertiliser, DLF Seeds planted Revel to assess the impact sowing time has on dry matter production; in particular, the benefits of “early sowing and establishment” vs. “sowing later into colder soils.”

  • Sowing dates for “early sowing and establishment”
    24th March 2022
  • Sowing dates for “sowing later into colder soils”
    27th April 2022

Trial results

As evident by the increase in dry matter, this trial highlights a significant advantage of “early sowing and establishment.”

Early sowing significantly increases winter dry matter production

  • Revel early sowing reached 3,732 kg DM/ha by 23/08/22, while Revel late sowing produced only 2,300 kg DM/ha
  • This equates to a 1,432 kg DM/ha advantage from sowing Revel earlier

Faster early growth provides an immediate advantage

  • By 23/06/22, Revel sown early had already accumulated 1,347 kg DM/ha, compared to just 421 kg DM/ha for Revel sown late. This demonstrates the impact warmer soil temperatures have on the early establishment and growth of Revel

Higher yield throughout winter

  • At every measurement date, Revel sown early consistently outperformed Revel sown late, highlighting the advantage of earlier establishment
  • Even by 22/07/22, Revel sown early was ahead by 1,592 kg DM/ha (2,435 vs. 843 kg DM/ha)

Sowing earlier maximises winter production potential\

  • The steeper curve in August for Revel sown early suggests stronger growth, ensuring more feed availability heading into spring

Trial design

  • Four replications per variety for statistical accuracy
  • Full replacement fertiliser applied after each cut based on yield removed from each plot

Available as bare and Ultrastrike® treated seed

Ultrastrike® is a broad spectrum "film coat" that provides establishing grass seedlings with extensive protection.

  • Assists in maximising seedling establishment and plant development
  • Effective against a range of common insects
  • Not harmful to beneficials such as earthworms
  • Cost effective compared with 'broadacre' control options
