Providing excellent crop utilisation during grazing, Foundation forage rape is an early to mid maturing, multi graze option with a high leaf-to-stem ratio.
As part of the Cleancrop™ Brassica System, Foundation has been bred to be tolerant to the sulfonylurea herbicide Telar™ – a broad spectrum herbicide that provides excellent control of broad leaf weeds from the pre-emerge stage.
Cleancrop™ Foundation forage rape is available through accredited retailers and is sold as a complete package (seed + herbicide).
Brassica seed sowing rate (sole): 4kg/ha

Cleancrop™ Foundation forage rape is a cultivar that is part of the Cleancrop™ Brassica System, a simple weed management solution that combines the power of broad-spectrum herbicide Telar™ and plants bred to tolerate it.
Telar™ takes care of 48 weeds at the time of sowing, freeing up moisture and nutrients to give your crop the best chance of maximising performance and delivering a superior return on your seed investment.
NOTE: Telar™ cannot be used on regular brassicas

In 8 spring sown trials across Australia, DLF Seeds measured the overall yield of Foundation forage rape (without Telar® applied) against Titan forage rape.
The aim of these trials was to ensure Foundation forage rape yields as high as other industry standard early-mid flowering forage rapes.
Between cuts, there was no significant difference, demonstrating Foundation forage rapes yield potential.
Cleancrop™ Foundation forage rape has been extensively tested at Ballarat & Lismore VIC. Its yield potential, coupled with its tolerance to the herbicide Telar®, ensures growers receive all the benefits of a traditional forage rape whilst providing strong weed control of 48 weeds commonly found in brassica crops.
83 days after sowing, all plots were harvested (after an extended dry period).
Cleancrop™ Foundation forage rape delivered the highest total forage rape dry matter yield at 3362kgDM/ha.
The trial experienced extremely dry conditions resulting in one dry matter harvest only (on the 14th January, 2024). Although the forage rapes survived the extreme conditions, the remainder of the trial was terminated, and no further harvests were taken.
Foundation forage rape offers strong Aphid tolerance compared to other leading varieties (similar to Pallaton Raphno® and Mainstar).
Aphid score 1-9: 9 being the cleanest plant without aphids vs 1 extreme Aphid presence.
Aphid tolerance is an important trait for maintaining strong leaf health, dry matter production, and overall variety performance in forage rape. This is especially critical during spring and autumn when aphid pressure is often higher. As forage rape can be carried into winter (if conditions allow), strong aphid tolerance helps optimise late-season production.
Higher tolerance may also reduce the need for insecticide applications – lowering input costs and minimising impacts on beneficial insects and crop health. Aphids are known carriers of disease, which can significantly affect brassica survival and yield.
