About
Align AR37 is setting a new benchmark for perennial ryegrass performance in Australia, landing at the top of Dairy Australia’s 2026 Forage Value Index (FVI) and signalling a shift in what farmers can expect from modern tetraploid cultivars.
For dairy producers looking to squeeze more value out of every hectare, the FVI remains one of the industry’s most trusted tools.
Developed in collaboration with DataGene, Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) and the Pasture Trials Network, it provides an independent and reliable assessment on the potential economic value of Perennial, Italian and Annual ryegrass cultivars.
In this year’s update, Align AR37 demonstrated its performance across diverse growing environments and outperformed all other varieties in Southwest Victoria, Gippsland, Northern Victoria and Tasmania.
Isaac Berry, DLF Seeds Technical Manager explains that “Align AR37 arrives with a new standard of tolerance to crown rust and impressive year round dry matter production. But its real difference is its extremely late heading date (+39), new generation genetics and strong insect resistance from AR37 endophyte."
With demonstrated resistance of Argentine Stem Weevil larvae, Pasture Mealybug, Adult Black Beetle and Root Aphid, Align AR37 delivers the kind of reliability farmers increasingly depend on in tough seasons.
“Align AR37’s agronomic profile reinforces its top ranking. With excellent summer and autumn growth, improved tetraploid density, an upright growth habit and a late heading date, Align AR37 maintains quality deeper into the season.
In short, this is a tetraploid designed to perform and persist. It will provide farmers with a reliable homegrown feed base with AR37 endophyte insect resistance. Resulting in greater persistence, higher weight gains, more milk in the vat, quality hay, silage and grazing.” concludes Isaac.
The strength of the DLF Seeds’ breeding programme was also on display this year!
Alongside Align AR37 in the number one position; Vast AR37 tetraploid perennial ryegrass and Base AR37 tetraploid perennial ryegrass also secured places in the top five across all tested states.
The consistency highlights DLF Seeds strong commitment to develop and deliver, to Australian farmers and Agronomists, proven seed varieties designed to generate the best possible outcomes on farm and within the wider Agriculture community.
Base AR37 brings dependable year‑round growth, strong persistence and the proven benefits of the AR37 endophyte, making it a reliable option for farms that face persistent pest pressure.
Brad Byrnes DLF Seeds Sales Marketing Manager explains that “Base AR37 has been a proven performer for many years now. Previously, it topped the FVI for 6 years straight from 2018 to 2023. It continues to remain in the top 5 now, and that’s after 29 trials.
Meanwhile, Vast AR37 stands out for its persistence, summer performance, fine leaf, excellent feed quality and AR37 insect resistance, positioning it as a strong option for high intensity grazing systems for sheep, beef and dairy cattle” concludes Brad.
As climate variability and pest challenges continue to reshape pasture management, varieties with proven endophytes such as AR37 or AR128, demonstrate how genetics and endophyte technology are working hand in hand to lift performance and resilience in an ever-changing and challenging environment.
